The strengthening of land-based capabilities, which lies at the heart of current transformations, requires significant investment in technology, industry and human resources.

Our role

In Wallonia, MecaTech plays an active role in building a high-performing and innovative defence ecosystem. By supporting companies and consortia in developing their projects, facilitating access to funding and fostering a collective dynamic, the Cluster positions Walloon stakeholders within Europe’s strategic value chains. This commitment is already yielding tangible results, with an increasing proportion of defence-related projects within the Cluster’s portfolio.

CAP4LAND: structuring the land defence ecosystem

CAP4LAND now serves as a framework for innovation in land defence in Belgium. Developed in partnership with the Belgian Ministry of Defence, this initiative aims to build, together with all stakeholders, a shared vision of short- and long-term technological and capability needs. It helps to strengthen the coherence of value chains, stimulate innovation and create sustainable synergies between industry, academia and institutions.

Building a shared technological vision

MecaTech is leading the development of a technology roadmap in close collaboration with the defence sector and the wider ecosystem. This work is based on analysing existing capabilities, identifying future needs and establishing a clear roadmap aligned with national and European priorities.

Fostering and connecting the ecosystem

MecaTech also plays a central role in driving the defence ecosystem forward. By promoting dialogue, facilitating collaboration and organising working groups, the Cluster helps to align innovation initiatives with concrete operational needs.
