What is EIT Manufacturing?
Amardeep Banerjee (Innovation Manager): « EIT Manufacturing is an innovation community that brings together the leading manufacturing actors in Europe. It strives to add unique value to European products, processes, services and inspire the creation of globally competitive and sustainable manufacturing. The organisation has a network of more than 70 partners as well as several dozen network partners and supported startups. It is headquartered in Paris, France, and has five locations in Europe, of which EIT Manufacturing Central gGmbH in Darmstadt, Germany, provides services to companies, research institutes, universities, startups and scaleups from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Ireland and Poland.
Europe is the cradle of industry and the Industrial Revolution,” says Dr Christian Bölling, Managing Director of EIT Manufacturing Central gGmbH. “We want Europe to also be the cradle and the home of Industrial Innovation in production and manufacturing technology and work towards this with a constantly growing community.”
EIT Manufacturing is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.
What is its scope of action?
EIT Manufacturing connects and integrates the areas of education, innovation and business creation to ensure that innovations reach the market, industry has the right talent and entrepreneurs can thrive. The majority of EIT Manufacturing’s operational budget is dedicated to supporting projects that turn research into industry-ready solutions.
A key element are calls for proposals EIT Manufacturing launches. Their aim is to support the development of new promising technologies, help create spin-offs or start-ups, or support scaleup of SMEs with promising new business ideas in Europe. During the call processes, experts from EIT Manufacturing help to grow, refine and promote the most promising projects with the right ideas, challenges and project partners.
In EIT Manufacturing, we have always used thematic areas to guide our efforts in innovation, education and business creation towards high-potential projects which foster innovation and entrepreneurship,” says Amardeep Banerjee, Darmstadt-based Innovation Manager at EIT Manufacturing.
The thematic areas of the Call for Proposal 2023 are:
- Automation for human-centred factories
- Collaborative robots and solutions for flexible manufacturing
- Smart technologies for circular and green manufacturing
- AI and digital twins for manufacturing systems
The call is open for all manufacturing entities based in Europe and non-members can lead the activity.
The central information hub for the Call for Proposals 2023 is AGORA, the EIT Manufacturing community open innovation platform. In a dedicated online area, the Call for Proposals 2023 sphere, more than 600 interested participants find all information on the call. The call will open on 9 February and open until 29th April 2022. »
Comment est-ce que cela peut être intéressant pour les membres du pôle ?
Thibaud van Rooden (Directeur International) : « EIT Manufacturing développe des outils de soutien aux entreprises et aux entrepreneurs. Ces actions peuvent bénéficier à nos membres.
On peut citer à titre d’exemple, l’aspect réseautage international, mentionné par les collègues d’EIT Manufacturing. EIT Manufacturing compte parmi ses membres des références en manufacturing ; qu’il s’agisse d’industriels tel que Festo, Kuka, Whirlpool ou d’entité de recherche comme TU Delft, DFKI, Tecnalia et bien d’autres encore. En développant des liens entre EIT et MecaTech, on permet à notre écosystème de membres d’entrer en contact avec ce réseau. Pour des wallons intéressés par les projets d’innovation collaboratifs par c’est une porte d’entrée supplémentaire.
EIT Manufacturing organise également ses propres projets appels à projet Européens. Ces appels à projet récurrents (2 par an) sont une opportunité de financement supplémentaire pour nos membres, d’autant qu’il s’agit de projets à TRL assez élevés. EIT organise d’ailleurs une activité de matchmaking début février pour cet appel, mentionnée par Amardeep dans le point précédent.
Qu’est-ce qu’EIT Manufacturing et MecaTech envisagent de faire ensemble ?
Je trouve toujours intéressant de comparer les missions respectives quand on entame des discussions avec un partenaire potentiel. Dans le cadre de MecaTech et d’EIT Manufacturing on trouve bon nombre de similarités, comme l’amélioration de la compétitivité, la création d’activité et d’emplois soutenables, le soutien à l’innovation…
EIT Manufacturing souhaite mieux se faire connaitre localement en s’appuyant sur des écosystèmes régionaux comme les pôles & clusters (ex : EM2C, AFM Cluster). De son côté MecaTech est intéressé d’ouvrir de nouvelles opportunités pour à ses membres.
